Collection photography analysis
In this photograph taken by Olivia Parker, it has a collection of shell like objects which are all similar to each other but each have a different colour or shade to them. With the monochrome as a tone to the image by some of the objects having a lighter tone compared to others surrounding it. Each are different size but they all have the same meaning and connect with each other to create an image which is based off the theme of collections.
The theme of this photograph is finding the connections between similar objects and calling them collections. The formal elements noticed in this image are space where each individual object has a different distance between them and by having the shapes the same but the size different, the gap can vary. If I were to touch this set of objects before or after the image was taken, I believe that they would be soft to touch but with a bumpy texture which details the shape of the shell like items.
Through the photographers eyes, I believe they were trying to show how putting together similar objects can create a different image compare to if it was just one in the photograph. However when looking at the background of the image I have selected, I found that she has not used a professional board or card but a simple piece of kitchen roll. In my opinion I think she has used this from the look of the sheet and how itself has bumps like the main objects of the photograph which means that she is relating these two pieces of the photograph together.
When comparing this image to others I have seen by Olivia Parker, I see that she has used the theme of collections and put together other objects in varies ways to create a new and different image but in a collective way so a variety of images link to each other. However even though she puts together objects which are similar, they all have an individual characteristics which make them different from each other but read the same message towards the audience.
From the work I have seen from Olivia Parker, she keeps the subject matter or theme going showing a variety of ways collections can be represented. This work has influenced me to edit my photographs in a similar way using the monochrome but keeping the images related to each other and also showing it in varies ways.
