Andreas gursky
repetition
In this photograph created by Andreas Gursky, I see a plain building in a normal city as if it was a important building. To describe this photograph, I would use plain and repetitive to display to the audience. The shapes and colours are repeated through the image giving the audience an interested view. This a an abstract image because there are variety of shades next to each other but the shapes are the same. In this image, I recognise it as a skill which photographers choose to create different messages to the audience. This is a new skill to me using the repetitive shapes and colours giving a vague message to the audience.
The photographer is trying to show how repetition of light and colour, can make an image look different to a variety of people and give a title from their own opinion. If I was to ask the photographer a question, I would ask why this building was an important feature in his work. Also did he find the dark colours an inspiration to make the image look more effective on the page in front of an audience. This image is relatable to other images I have seen of his work because he uses the idea of the repetition on buildings but it gives the image a structure and shape. When he gets closer to the windows and focuses on the colour of the building to give the audience a better understanding of the photograph. In my own opinion, I think this image gives a effective affect which can give the audience a clear message which is relatable to the title. When the title is given to us as an audience, we get a better understanding of why the photographer, Andreas Gursky, has taken the image and presented it to an audience. |
Within this image, Andreas Gursky has gone to a different perspective by making the distance bigger between the camera and the building. From my own observation, I can see a wide building which has a variety of colours but it has been taken on a larger scale compared to his previous picture. By including the local life on the ground and the plain sky, the building with the variety of colours gives the building more purpose. But it also gives the audience an understanding of how he has not manipulated the image.
The subject matter of the image is the understanding of how we see the image as the big picture which is the title of the current photograph. The shape and lines of the building are repetitive and equal with one another but they are clear even though the distance between the camera and the building. The techniques of this image is the constant shapes and colour to the building which can create an illusions of pictures on the building. The photographer is trying to show how by seeing the building from a larger distance can show the detail of the lines and colours. If I was to ask the photographer a question, I would ask him why he would choose a building that didn't have a pattern or picture to it to make a clear message. This image is different to other photographs taken by Andreas Gursky because this one doesn't have a clear pattern to it or colour like his previous picture which only had dull shades to it making it have a symmetry shown by the photographer. By comparing these images, I can see that he is going for something different but it has a hidden meaning that the photographer understands. From my own understanding of his work, I can see that he likes the idea of colour but it has to have patterns and clear lines which show up. These are a influence to me because I can use the repetition to create my own understanding of openings but use the technique of repetition. |
