Dragan Todorovic
Light
From this image, Dragan Todorovic is trying to show how a long or short pathway can lead to an opening or a new direction. In the detail, we can see that the image is set up so the image can be clear and have a message to the audience. The photographer was trying to show how all openings can be a light to a new path and that there is always light at the end of the tunnel. This gives the audience to the message of why the photographer created the image to show that all paths have an end.
The theme of this photograph is the understanding of openings through paths and to new places. Down this alley way, we can see the light coming through the arc way which from a large audience can be seen as an opening depending on the name of the image. The formal elements are shown by the clear cut lines which define the shape of the pavement leading towards the light. The main object which stand out on the page are the large arc which gleams with light from the sun. From looking at the photographer and the image in detail, I can guess that Dragan Todorovic was trying to show the audience what can be seen from these paths. As well as them being an opening with the effect of the light to intrigue the audience. If I was ever to meet the photographer, I would ask why he did not include any people in this image because it can show whether it was set up blocking people from the path. Or he could of taken the image at a certain time to get the sun in the right place so it can lean through the arc way. Comparing this image to his current photography, I can see that he has worked on the subject on openings but thought about how the light can be the message towards the audience. With other images, he has worked on the focus of light coming through a big gap onto a certain object or person giving an expression which can explain the image. By completing these, I have seen how he thinks about the topic he is focusing on to give the audience a clear message of why the photo was taken at that time. For my own opinion of his work, Dragan Todorovic has thought about the style and position of the setting and the camera well to get every object in to the light. To influence my work, the element of light and darkness have given my images more of a purpose and a clear message. |
In this photograph, it shows that a window can be an opening to see what is in the world outside. The girl in the chair is being lead towards the window as an escape or a dream. The sunlight in the image plays a key part showing how the room is dark and mysterious but the natural sunlight provides a message towards the audience. The photographer, Dragan Todorovic is displaying a clear message to the audience showing how sunlight can change a rooms appearance.
For this image, the equipment used could be a tripod to capture and focus on the whole area of the image to give it a message. However the technique used is monochrome to highlight the light coming into the building and onto the person in the chair giving it a message. This effects the way we see it because it can give a variety of people an explanation to why the photographer took the image. The shapes and lines in this image are dull and unrecognisable because the darkness is hiding away but instead giving it detail to the photograph. The play of light is not manipulated but he has chosen a time of day when the light would come through the window giving that effect and impact on the image. Space in this image is chosen so the girl is not too deep into the light but when she is reaching her hand out, she can touch the ray of sunlight coming through the building. The most interest part of the image for me is the pose and status the women is giving in this image to show the audience why the photographer has taken this dark image. When giving a title to this image I would call it 'Reaching out' because it gives the person in the image a meaning instead of making the audience guess what she is doing. In this image, I believe that this women has been living in this abandoned dark house and when the sun shines through the building, she sees it as a special moment when warmth is met with the body. If I was inside this image, it would be a dark room with little light reaching through the window grabbing it at every chance. In this photograph, the most effect part is the girl reaching out towards the light when it comes through the building highlighting the walls. The audience will say that he has used the idea of light to capture the detail in the lust of the light. To remember this image, it needs to give us a message and this photograph has presented a clear message to show why this person is reaching for the sunlight. |
